The Fastest Growing Sport and Personal Development Activity in New South Wales Schools

Why not introduce this martial art and Olympic Sport into your next school term and enable your students to experience a new and exciting way to keep fit and build self esteem.

School Taekwondo has been embraced by the whole education spectrum, involving students in both the public and private sectors.  With a shared bond in this community minded sport, many go on to participate in the annual “All Schools Tournament” organised through the Wyllie Taekwondo Academy with the full support of schools and parents.

Academy founder, Greg Wyllie (B.Ed), is a qualified school teacher and 8th Dan Master Instructor.  He has grown school participation from one school in 1983 to over eighty schools in 2010.  With Sydney’s largest professionally qualified group of NCAS accredited instructors, this Academy conducts classes before, during and after school.  This year, the Academy was also recognised as The Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) largest service provider for the After School Activity Program.  So far, fifty after school centres have contracted the Academy to conduct classes/activities.

Master Wyllie’s approach to training is simple.  It has to be fun, build confidence and self-esteem, and nurture a desire for young students to develop into good citizens.

In addition to enjoying the physical exercise and fun of school Taekwondo, students enthusiastically embrace the following areas:

  • Fitness:  Techniques for enhancing and maintaining flexibility, strength and cardio-vascular fitness
  • Coping with Bullying:  Learn to manage bullies without fighting
  • Deportment:  Acquire an appreciation of the values of good citizenship
  • Group Bonding:  By having a great time with fellow students, making new friends
  • Peer Support:  By Participating in team activities (Peer Support Program)
  • Building mutual respect by sharing an interest in this exciting activity

Taekwondo is a valuable supplement not only to other sports and PE classes, but also to school studies because it improves concentration, coordination and fitness through its simple physical learning exercises.

As they develop their skills, students can progress to become graded which involves controlled, coordinated rhythmic locomotor skill activities.  Demonstrations to showcase student’s skills are organised at assemblies, fetes and open days in order to provide an additional forum to build confidence and encourage a wider school community and family support.

We will be pleased to visit your school and discuss how Taekwondo can make a valuable contribution to the life of your school physical education and personal development programs.

On request, programs with learning outcomes to complement existing PD/H/PE activities are available to participating schools.

Our Willoughby studio is used by some schools as a venue for this activity.
